Featured Presentation

SQL Server Resource Governor

Speaker: Brian Carrig, Site Reliability Engineering Manager Citrix

Summary: The SQL Server Resource Governor feature is an incredibly useful tool for any DBA to have in their toolbox. It allows for the effective throttling and control of resources consumed by multiple workloads running on a single SQL Server instance. In this session, we will cover the fundamental concepts of resource governor and provide demonstrations of practical scenarios where resource governor can be used to control resources for specific workloads. Examples include how to limit the amount of memory consumed by in-memory OLTP tables and how to prevent poorly written queries from overwhelming your storage subsystem. We also discuss cases where resource governor can be used to limit parameter sniffing problems and ways to leverage the useful information contained in the resource governor DMVs for monitoring and reporting purposes.

About Brian: Brian Carrig is a Microsoft Certified Master of SQL Server and is currently a Site Reliability Engineering Manager on the DevOps team at Citrix ShareFile. In a previous life, Brian spent some time as an academic and holds a PhD in Computer Science. He is a native of Dublin, Ireland but now lives with his wife and two daughters in Cary, North Carolina. If he is not talking about, thinking about or working with technology you will usually find him watching Chelsea FC.
